Trying local dishes allows you to experience the genuine flavours that have been refined over time and reflect the local preferences and history.

Recently, international travel online guide Taste Atlas shared the list of top 100 cities in the world that are renowned for their local foods, and Delhi and Mumbai are part of this list! Both the cities are in this list at number 16 and 34 respectively. As per its official website, this list has been curated by combining the restaurant ratings on Google and its own database.

The official statement read, “What we did was the following: we combined the average of the ratings of the best local and regional dishes served in a particular city, the average rating of the national dishes served in that city, and the average Google rating of the best traditional restaurants in that city.” This is how they made this list of top 100 cities in the world for local food.

Italy’s Florence, is rated as the top-rated city for trying out the local food and the most popular street food of this place are Fiorentia, Ribollita, Lampredotto, and Trippa Alla Fiorentia, and Pappardelle al Cinghiale. This city is followed by Rome, Lima, Naples, Hong Kong, Mexico, New York, Paris, Tokyo and Milan. These are the top 10 cities famous for its street food.

Taste Atlas described New Delhi’s local food as “a mouthwatering combination of traditional Indian cuisine, street food vendors, and a growing number of international dining options. It’s characterised by its aromatic spices, rich flavours, and diverse culinary influences.” Some of the must-try dishes in Delhi are Chole Bhature, Butter Chicken, Aloo Tikki, Nihari, and Pakora.

On the other hand, Mumbai is known for its generous use of local ingredients and rich spices. Taste Atlas recommends Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji, Bhel Puri, Bombay Sandwich and Ragda Pattice as some of the must-try dishes in Mumbai.
It seems like the global map has started recognizing the magic of Indian food, and probably that’s the reason, early this year Taste Atlas, a food guide platform too released a list of the top 50 vegan dishes in the world, and interestingly, seven Indian dishes have made it to the list. It included Masala Vada, Bhel Puri, Rajma Chawal, Aloo Gobhi, Misal Pav, and Gobhi Manchurian
