A new name in local food and beer is coming to Syracuse Hancock Airport.
That location, past the terminal’s security check-in, is currently branded as a Middle Ages Pub, named in a deal with Syracuse’s Middle Ages Brewing Co. Terminal B serves Delta, United and Frontier airlines.
A second Middle Ages Pub in the South Terminal (Terminal A) will remain open under that name.
All food concessions at the airport are run by Delaware North, a large hospitality management company based in Buffalo. In cases like these, the concessions business pays a licensing fee to use the brand names like Palladino Farms and Middle Ages but runs the day-to-day operations.
The change will mean the North Terminal pub will feature menu items and beers from Heritage Hill at Palladino Farms on Sweet Road in Pompey. It may also eventually carry products produced at the new meat processing business that Palladino Farms is proposing to operate in partnership with Leighs & Steigerwald’s butcher shop in Syracuse.
“This allows us to grow the Palladino Farms name as we work to get the new meat business started,” said Dan Palladino, who owns the Pompey farm with his brother, Nick. Palladino Farms raises both beef cattle and hogs.
The restaurant signs will also depict images of the farm, which sits on one of the highest hills in Onondaga County and offers spectacular sunset views.
The airport changeover is starting this week, and is expected to be complete by the end of the month.
“… This partnership allows us to showcase the incredible flavors of Central New York,” Tom Waldron, chief operating officer of Delaware North Travel, said in a statement. “We are excited to offer travelers a true taste of the region while contributing to the sustainable growth of our local community.”
The restaurant will offer breakfast as well as lunch and dinner options, including such dishes as Pompey Poutine, Smokehouse Wings, All-American Smash Burger and Highest Point Pulled Pork found at Heritage Hill.
The new restaurant will also uses other local sources, as in the Basilio Sausage and Egg breakfast sandwich.
The bar will have a variety of beers and hard seltzers, plus wine and spirits. It will highlight Heritage Hill beers, but will not exclusively use that brand.
Middle Ages agreed to give up its licensing deal for the second airport location, owner Isaac Rubenstein said. The first Middle Ages pub opened in the South Terminal in 2014, followed by the one in the North Terminal in 2015.
“We’re happy for Dan and Heritage Hill to have this opportunity,” Rubenstein said.
The change allows the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority to add diversity to the food options.
“We believe the curation of an exceptional airport customer experience is tied closely to generating a sense of place, giving the traveler an opportunity to fully experience the fruits of our region,” airport authority Chief Commercial Officer Jason Mehl said in a statement.
