Exciting news for York foodies – as fried chicken food stall Clucking Oinks are opening a restaurant in York later this year.
The much-loved food stall at Spark have announced they’re opening their first restaurant in York. It will open at 1 Castlegate, the previous home of vegan restaurant Source.
The restaurant plans to open in mid June.

“Our concept will remain the same, picture hip hop meets fried chicken,” said Clucking Oinks founder, Mike Brand.
Clucking Oinks serves up delicious fried chicken – with chicken strips and burgers, as well as loaded fries and sides such as halloumi fries.
For the new restaurant “our ethos of fried chicken will remain but the restaurant will allow us to have an extended menu”. So watch this space!
Clucking Oinks began as a food truck in 2016, before it became one of the first stalls at Spark in 2018 – where they still trade successfully. They are the last of Spark’s inaugural traders.
But don’t worry – they’re not leaving Spark. They plan on maintaining both sites once the restaurant is open.

The reaction to the news of the restaurant has been “very positive” with “overwhelming support from everyone, including suppliers, customers and family and friends.”
“We would like to thank all our wonderful customers and our amazing team,” said Mike. “None of this would have been possible without their support.”
Clucking Oinks joins a long line of Spark vendors who have found a permanent restaurant residence in York. We can’t wait to see more of their new venture!
