Memphis Food & Wine Festival announced Wednesday that the organization will not present its flagship festival in 2023.
But don’t worry, festival organizers have a lot planned for this year and next.
Instead of its annual event, festival organizers will once again present the popular Celebrity Chef Dinner Series. The organization hosted a similar series when it canceled the festival in 2020 due to the pandemic.
“We are taking a break this year,” said José Gutierrez, Memphis Food & Wine Festival co-founder. “There are several reasons. We want to take the time to think about what we can improve on from this past year. Plus the economy is not as good as it should be. This is what our instincts say we should do — and our instincts have been right before.”
The festival will return in 2024 — with a big headliner. “Gordon Ramsay has said he will come in 2024,” Gutierrez said.
The dates for the dinner series are Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Nov. 9 and Jan. 25.
Memphis restaurant news:These 5 Memphis restaurants are heading east. Here’s a look at what each has planned.
Dinners will feature local chefs, visiting chefs as well as curated wine selections. “Think of it like a tiny Memphis Food & Wine Festival in a restaurant,” Gutierrez said.
The list of guest chefs has not yet been announced, but restaurants River Oaks, Capital Grille, Erling Jensen’s and Acre will each host one of the dinners.
“Memphis Food & Wine Festival is the best party in Memphis, so we need to continue the fun. That’s why we are doing the dinner series,” Gutierrez said.
The full Memphis Food & Wine Festival will return to Radians Amphitheater on Oct. 19, 2024.
