I have been visiting Ibiza for decades, and ever since I first stepped on the island as an awkward teenager looking for the best beach clubs, I have been mesmerized by its glamour, fashion, and displays of decadent wealth. And now, the 220-square-mile “white island” off the coast of Spain is having a serious post-pandemic revival celebrating a new boho-chic vibe with more spiritual yoga retreats and wellness offerings than the infamous nightclubs the island is known for.
The island is a composition of large resorts mixed with intimate boutique hotels and tranquil Agroturismo properties. The area is surrounded by breathtaking beaches, plunging rocky cliffs over azure bays, lush, dramatic forests, and extravagant villas lining the hillsides. With no Russian visitors, I noticed a significant presence of Dutch and Belgian tourists, the traditional masses from the UK, and a few famous billionaires.
It is important to note that Ibiza is experiencing a dramatic surge in tourism, so much so that accommodations are extremely limited, and restaurants are sold out well before the season even starts. You will also find a shortage of staffing on the island which will often be frustrating, but for those with patience, the experience is worth it.
All the top picks I have included are led by talented, passionate chefs who care about giving you the best dining experience possible. While it is impossible to feature everyone’s favorite restaurant on the island, this highlighted selection is a must for every visitor.
The hottest recommendations for your next visit are listed below in no particular order.
This beachfront location is perhaps the most intimate version of Nobu’s wildly popular restaurants. Featuring its famous Nikkei fusion food, Nobu came to Ibiza in 2017 and often has Chef Nobu visit in person. Overlooking the bay of Talamanca on the outskirts of Ibiza Town, the restaurant is part of the stunning waterfront Nobu Hotel and offers outdoor dining.
Try the fantastic Omakase option, where you can be a part of a multi-course tasting menu paired expertly by the sommelier. The charming Executive Chef Enrico Maimonte leads a talented group in the kitchen, and with top-notch servers and staff, this experience is among the best on the island.
The View at 7Pines Resort Ibiza offers a spectacular terrace overlooking the Sea and Es Vedra. The well-heeled crowd comes here for the ultimate outdoor dining experience with views to die for. The restaurant’s glass front opens up entirely with the illusion of floating above the sea. A fabulous open kitchen offers a view of Chef Andrés Fernández and his dedicated, talented team.
Make sure to try the long version of the tasting menu for the ultimate feast inspired by the chef’s Nordic roots and his passion for French cuisine. It is time for MICHELIN to award this fantastic restaurant and chef a star!
This rural hotel restaurant is part of a hideaway in the hills of Ibiza. It offers a long evening of dining, beginning with the sunset views of Dalt Vila town and not stopping until late. The restaurant is so popular with regulars, celebrities, and billionaires that it is nearly impossible to get a reservation. It must be the famed steak and truffle mash that is creating the long lines.
Many of the restaurant’s ingredients are grown onsite on their organic farm, and you can watch them cooking over the enormous grill in the open-air dining space as DJs and live musicians keep you entertained throughout the night.
This restaurant and club are located on the seafront in Ibiza Marina, offering traditional Latin dishes, dynamic salads, and well-crafted cocktails. Designed like a living room in an East Coast house and adjacent to the visiting superyachts, the DJ vibe gets louder as the evening wears on. Headed up by Executive Chef Victor Martinez Hernandez, this is the location you will not want to leave for many hours. Settle in for a starry night filled with beautiful people.
Located directly on San José beach at Cala Jondal, this ultra-popular and pricey restaurant opened in 2020 and instantly became a classic. Its lounge-style chairs, throw rugs, and flowing sail curtains compliment the fabulous seafood cuisine from acclaimed chef Rafa Zafra. You will unlikely get a reservation since this place is packed with the world’s wealthiest individuals (including Jeff Bezos, who was there during my visit). For the best head-turning arrival, tender in from your superyacht to join the throngs of celebrities and their guests lounging on the Burberry-branded sunbeds overlooking the cove.
Jul’s is a modern Greek restaurant with a sumptuous, sexy garden lounge located in the south of Ibiza. Executive Chef Cristos Fotos offers unique gourmet options, including open-fire grilled meat or its famed lobster risotto. Plates are meant to be shared with food grown on the Jul’s farm, so only the freshest ingredients are featured in the fire and smoke concept. Come for the energetic vibe; if you feel like dancing, terrific drinks, and organic food, this is your destination.
Margaret von Korff and her Ibiza-born husband, Luis Trigueros, converted an old country house from 1880 into the fabulous Cas Gasi boutique hotel near the village of Santa Gertrudis. Now open to non-guests, this very special and tranquil Agroturismo is where celebs and fashionistas come to escape the city in a peaceful rural setting.
You feel as if you are staying with friends at a country estate with its charming restaurant surrounding acres of expertly maintained organic farms. This authentic farm-to-table experience is headed by its charming Italian Chef, Michael Bernocchi, where foodies can enjoy healthy cuisine with a twist.
Located on the stunning Xarraca Bay, on the Northern tip of Ibiza, this gastronomic escape is part of the newly opened Six Senses Resort. Set in an open-air concept overlooking the water, with large communal-style tables as an option, the crowd is as beautiful as it gets. From models to fashionistas and high-end travelers, prepare to look the part.
Led by famed Israeli Chef Eyal Shani, his unique, delectable combination of ingredients sourced in Ibiza is mixed with the Mediterranean cuisine of Israel. The small plate dishes include the freshest carpaccios on the island and showcase the chef’s love for vegetables as they take center stage. Add in prime Spanish meat, and let the table feast begin.
After hours, head down to the beach to dance at the amazing The Beach Caves sushi restaurant and cocktail bar. The Beach Caves includes a day-into-night restaurant and bar, live music venue, and a recording studio complete with a secret entrance in case you are a visiting DJ or musician who gets inspired.
With jaw-dropping views on a rocky cliff over the sea, Eden Restaurant is a destination worth the drive. Located at the stunning Hacienda Na Xamena hotel, it is a chilled-out, sunset-watching spot with live music.
French Chef Gerard Germain recently joined the team and serves a high-end version of sustainable Mediterranean fare. Coming soon are some dramatic new additions to the restaurant that will make this the top of your list as the most romantic spot on the island.
In 2021, Ibiza Gran Hotel’s La Gaia by Óscar Molina became the first hotel restaurant on the island to earn a Michelin star. Chef Molina, considered one of the best chefs in Spain, showcases creative “Mediterranean-Kaiseki cuisine,” incorporating the best Ibizan ingredients fused with Japan and Peru. The ultimate experience here is to do the Posidonia menu, which includes 14 courses and involves multiple moving destinations throughout the restaurant. This is a gastronomic adventure, for sure.
Mondrian Ibiza and Hyde Ibiza are set to open on the bay of Cala Llonga in June and will include nine food and beverage outlets. NIKO, a Japanese restaurant specializing in high-end sushi, overlooks the bay, and Sun & Moon will serve Australian comfort food all day.
