Gimme Momo is a mobile business that specialises in Nepal-style street food, and will be delivering in Penarth from today, August 11, to Sunday, August 13.
Customers can order home-cooked Nepali food to be delivered. The business operates two to three weekends a month, with future dates released on social media.
Santi Howard-Krelle, originally from Nepal, moved to Sully in October 2022 with her husband.
Having discovered the lack of Nepalese food in the area, she saw an opportunity to bring traditional food to the Vale of Glamorgan and its surrounding areas.
She said: “I started to miss the taste of home, and I quickly realised that I had very few options when ordering traditional Nepali-style food.
“In fact, the closest place to find Nepali-style food is in Pontypridd or over an hour’s drive away into the Brecon Beacons.
“So I saw the opportunity to really bring something new and exciting into the Vale of Glamorgan, an opportunity that would offer the people of Penarth and its surrounding areas a taste of Nepal.”
Gimme Momo operates on a Cloud Kitchen concept, which is home based on a delivery-only basis, the launch in Sully received a warm welcome from residents in the area.
The business has launched taste bags which include a bit of everything from the menu, to introduce customers to Nepali food.
The taster bag includes MoMo: Steamed and fried Nepali dumplings with Momo Achar (Tomato Sesame chutney) – Pork, Chicken and Veg
Aluduam: Nepali potato curry, Pork Tarkari: Nepali curry, which is popular in Eastern Nepal, Chicken Tarkari: a Nepali curry which is part of the Dal-Bhat set eaten daily in Nepal. Dal: Traditional lentil soup and Chow Mein: Chicken and Veg Nepali Street style Chow Mein.
She added: “It’s my culture, one that I am proud of and I am honoured to share, and it was great to see the community being open to try new Nepali cuisine for the first time.”
