Judging is underway for the 2023 Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards with the shortlist to be announced this month.

The prestigious awards celebrate and recognise outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs with categories covering every aspect of the sector; from food and drink tourism experiences, sustainability and primary producers, to awards for individual products and ranges, restaurants, eateries and more.

New categories were added this year to include an even wider cross-section of the industry: best start-up and best street food.

Individuals are also celebrated with the ambassador and young ambassador awards that recognise the outstanding contribution to the food and drink industry of both emerging stars and experienced stalwarts. The ambassador awards pay tribute to hard work, commitment, dedication, passion and innovation demonstrated within the sector.

Judging takes place in two stages; the first is based on the written entries which have been submitted and the second stage is a judging day where entries are discussed and sampling takes place where appropriate.

The judging panel is comprised of industry experts from across the supply chain, including representatives from the sponsors of the awards.

Judge, Fiona Stott, partner and new product development manager at sponsor Aquascot, has been impressed by this year’s entries. She added: “It’s great to see so much young talent being nominated for the young ambassador of the year award, truly inspiring!”

Entries to the 2023 awards were invited from across the Highlands, islands and Moray including Argyll and the Islands, Caithness and Sutherland, Inner Moray Firth, Outer Hebrides, Lochaber, Skye, Wester Ross, Orkney and Shetland.

The shortlist will be announced later this month with the winners being revealed at the awards ceremony at Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness on Friday, October 27. Tickets will be available to buy when the shortlist is announced.

The awards are supported by Highlands & Islands Enterprise and sponsors include: Aquascot, Be Personnel, Brook Street, Caledonian Sleeper, Highland News & Media, Saffery Champness, Salmon Scotland, Scotland Food & Drink, Seafood Scotland, Spey, and Williamson Foodservice.
