Would you happily burn a hole in your pocket for the most scrumptious plate of Papri Chaat? If your answer was yes, you’re in for a wealth of disappointment today as we’ve found that the dish is one of the top 10 worst-rated Indian foods in the world.
Taste Atlas, a travel guide for traditional cuisine that compiles real recipes, reviews from culinary critics and research papers about popular ingredients and meals, recently compiled a list of the “worst-rated Indian street foods” and many of our favourite street foods found some spots on the list.
The eighth item on the list was Papri Chaat, a common street food in north India. The dish is also well-known and adored in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

But the dish that topped the list is what surprised us the most. Maharashtra’s Dahi Puri bagged the not-so-coveted top spot on the list.
Other than Dahi Puri, you will be shocked to know that many of the well-loved street food items from Mumbai have found a place on the list. Bombay Sandwich, the iconic dish from Mumbai, though considered healthy and filling was not liked by many, according to the list, and was given the fourth spot. Dabeli, a famous street food found across Maharasthra was placed third on the list.
Along with Papri Chaat, other dishes like Egg Bhurji, Dahi Vada, and Sabudana Vada were included on the list. The Gobi Paratha from Punjab came in ninth place on the list, and the potato-based fried snack known as Bonda or Potato Bonda from southern India came in last.
