My name is Alexis (Lexie) Blackburn. I am from New Castle and graduated from New Castle High School. I am also the creator, owner and operator of L’s Treats.
I created L’s Treats in 2019 when I was a junior in high school and working part-time at Buffalo Wild Wings. I have always had big dreams for what I could some day turn the business into. When I first started, I was only able to offer simple items such as homemade cookies or dipped strawberries. I had no idea about the business world. Over the last few years I have been taught so much and have been able to expand the menu and business significantly, which I will continue to do.
I plan to open a specialty dessert storefront in New Castle sometime in 2024. I am a big fan of cookie stores, like ones you might find in a mall or on a college campus for late-night sweet runs. This is something I want to bring to New Castle. I am currently working on a new menu that includes all kinds of crazy cookie and brownie flavors, along with icings. There will be different options for various wants and needs. I want this to target audiences of all ages and have something for everyone. If not, I will make sure to get it.
My personal favorite is a “deluxe” cookie or brownie, which is not typical flavors or icings. Over time I have been able to focus more on specialty desserts of all kinds. The possibilities are endless. Another thing I like to offer is seasonal holiday boxes. These boxes contain all kinds of dipped goods such as chocolate-covered strawberries, pretzels, candies, etc. Sometimes a balloon and card are offered. Besides holiday boxes, dipped goods, cookies and brownies, I offer fried deluxe donuts and buckeyes.
Even though I don’t have a storefront location yet, I still accept orders via Facebook at L’s Treats. A current menu is posted on my Facebook page. I can make many things I do not have on the menu and am open to suggestions and working something out. Orders of any size are welcome. I can cater to celebrations of all kinds.
It has not always been an easy road for me or L’s Treats. Thankfully, I have a wonderful support system that includes family, friends and my fiancé, Devin. Sometimes having multiple orders on top of a day job can be overwhelming, but I can always count on help. Many nights staying up late to make all kinds of orders have created so many memories. I love being able to capture those moments for not only me and my fiancé, but for the business as well. I want my customers and the public to know how important family is to me and being involved. Besides my fiancé, my dad has been my other biggest supporter. He is actually the one who taught me how to make buckeyes, which are a hit for L’s Treats.
My junior year of high school I participated in the culinary arts program at the New Castle Career Center, which drove me and pushed me to do more. Cooking has always been one of my hobbies and I love making big meals for my family and friends. I come from a very large family. Growing up, my aunts always provided home-cooked meals and wanted to teach us.
While L’s Treats is small now, I hope one day it will be huge and something I can leave for my family. I continue to work everyday at my day job and plan for my dreams. L’s Treats is my everything and I am very thankful for this opportunity.
